National Park Service officials have closed all lands in this Outer Banks seashore to open fires - except in campground and picnic area grills.
The burning ban applies to the beaches within the federal park, Fort Raleigh National Historical Site and the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
An extended dry period this spring has increased the potential for uncontrollable wildfire, park rangers said. When significant rainfall occurs, the ban will be lifted. For more information, call (919) 473-2111, ext. 119. by CNB
