A police officer who was on routine patrol on a motorcycle was injured early Saturday when he was struck by a car, police said.
Second Precinct Officer Christopher S. Johnson, 22, had just turned south onto Pacific Avenue from 25th Street when the Kawasaki police motorcycle he was operating was struck by a car making a left turn from the northbound lane.
The accident happened about 1:09 a.m. Johnson was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital where he underwent surgery for a severe leg fracture. The driver of the car, Amy L. Maykowski, 20, of the 1800 block of Onyx Lane, was charged with failure to yield.
