For those of us who have been wondering what has happened to Sen. John Warner's priorities, the article by staff writers Warren Fiske and Dale Eisman (April 4) has the answer.
Senator Warner is quoted as saying, ``I was elected to the Senate to do what I feel is best for the country, the state and party, and I have always put things in that order.'' Perhaps we failed to understand this earlier for the simple reason that Senator Warner's desires were the same as ours when he was first elected.
The senator has always voted his desires, not the desires of the citizens of Virginia. Now that his priorities have changed, we see for the first time that he never considered himself to be a representative of the people. His only acknowledged constituency has always been himself. He proves that there is a need for term limits. For the first 12 years, he was with us. Now, it seems, he is against us.
