LARRY E. HOLTRY

Larry Eugene Holtry of Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, Va., age 44, went to be with both his heavenly and earthly fathers on April 20, 1995.

Mr. Holtry served for 23 years in the Submarine Service, USN. He was awarded many citations for distinguished work in the line of duty.

After his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Holtry owned and operated his own business in the Sandbridge area.

Mr. Holtry is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ann Ruch Holtry of Sandbridge, Va.; and one son, Robert of Florence, S.C. He also leaves his beloved mother, Gladys Hoover of Newburg, Pa.; and three sisters, Shirley Keeseman, Joann Disney, and Arlene Hoover of Franklin County, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Jodi Lynn Graybill Knighton and a grandson, Judson Robert Knighton. He was predeceased by his father, Samuel Holtry, his brother, Galen Holtry, and his son, Daniel, all of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Holtry was instrumental in organizing the original Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad of Sandbridge, and he served many years as a volunteer fireman and EMT. He was a 1st Lt. on the original Sandbridge Rescue Squad.

He was a faithful member and usher of Southside Church of Virginia Beach and belonged to the Sandbridge Civic League. Mr. Holtry graduated from Chambersburg, Pa., and St. Leo College in Florida.

Upon his death, he donated both of his eyes to the Lion's eye bank. Today two people who have never had sight before are able to see God's beautiful world because of this final generous gift.

A Memorial Service will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach, on Saturday, April 29th, at 2 p.m. A reception will be held immediately afterwards in the church fellowship hall. There will also be a Memorial Service at Roxbury United Methodist Church, Roxbury, Pa., on May 6th, at 3 PM. Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road, is handling local arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Holtry requested that donations be made to the Southside Church Building Fund, 1210 Progressive Drive, Suite 200, Chesapeake, Va. 23320, or Lifenet, 5809 Ward Court, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455, or to the American Cancer Society.
