Kathleen B. Downing, 89, formerly of the 9600 block of Hammett Parkway, died April 23, 1995, in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Downing was born in Collierstown, Va., and was a member of Episcopal Church of the Advent for 45 years. She was a previous employee of the Virginia Electric and Power Co. in Clifton Forge, Va., and the Naval Air Station in Norfolk. She had been an active member of the Pinewell Garden Club, the Church of the Advent Altar Guild, Women of the Church, and Prayer Group. She was a member of the Orchid Chapter No. 1, Balboa, Republic of Panama from 1944 until 1993. She was the daughter of the late Mamie Cornelia Entsminger and Garrett Payne Burger.
She will be missed by those who survive her including, two daughters, Sue Taylor of Norfolk and Martha Downing (Ingham) Hillegas of Virginia Beach, and one son-in-law, Billie Jim Taylor; three grandsons, Matthew Taylor of Norfolk, David Ingham of Glen Allen, Va., and Jason Hillegas, stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany; two granddaughters, Kelly Webber of Virginia Beach and Kathleen Taylor of Rock Spring, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, William and Amanda Taylor, George Webber III, and Zachary Paul Hillegas; a brother and sister-in-law, Chester Payne Burger and Patricia of Fall River Mills, Ca.; a sister-in-law, Helen Snapp of Merritt Island, Fla.; and numerous cousins and friends.
The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, April 26, 1995, at 2 p.m. by Father Macon Walton in Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9620 Sherwood Place, Norfolk. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge, Va. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel today from 6 to 8 p.m.
