Ernest Henderson Watkins, 56, of the 900 block of Norchester Ave., a custodian, died Saturday, April 22, 1995, in Norfolk Community Hospital.
Mr. Watkins was born in Hampton, son of Margaret F. Henderson Watkins of Hampton and the late Ulysses Grant Watkins. He was employed with the Norfolk Public Schools at Poplar Hall Elementary and also worked for over 20 years at Dog & Cat Hospital on 21st Street in Norfolk. He was a member of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton and for many years was a member of First Baptist Church Lamberts Point.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Marion O. Watkins of the home; a daughter, Carshena M. Watkins of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Franklin Melvin Jr. of Norfolk; four sisters, Margaret W. Francis, Juanita L. Watkins, Clara D. Watkins of Hampton and Joyce L. Redding of Norfolk; a brother, Thomas A. Watkins of Hampton; four nieces; five nephews; and his mother-in-law, Wilhelmenia B. Jackson.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, 2002 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, by Dr M. Ivory Jefferson. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at 938 Norchester Ave., Norfolk. The procession for the funeral will assemble at 240 Libby St., Hampton.
