The Blackwater Regional Crime Line is seeking information on two fires of suspicious origin that occurred in Isle of Wight County within one week.
The first fire was reported between 3:30 and 4 a.m. April 15. An abandoned house on Mill Swamp Road was destroyed.
Six days later, between 5 and 6 a.m. April 21, another abandoned house burned to the ground. The second dwelling was on Four Square Road near Central Hill Road.
Neither of the homes had been occupied for several years, sheriff's investigator C.B. Nurney said. There was no electric service to either house, and there were no electrical storms during the night that could have started the fires, he said.
``We are 99 percent sure both fires were the result of arson,'' Nurney said. ``The houses were about six miles apart. We'd like to talk to anybody who has any information.''
If you have any information about either fire, please call Crime Line at 653-2900 (Southampton), 562-8599 (Franklin), 357-5555 (Isle of Wight) or 357-2429 (Smithfield).
