GREENVILLE L. WRIGHT SR.

Greenville L. Wright Sr., age 90, of Hurds Road, died peacefully April 24, 1995, at his home.

Mr. Wright was born on Jan. 27, 1905, on a farm three miles south of London Bridge. He attended Oceana High School and Virginia Tech, where he received a degree in commercial engineering and a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve upon graduation in 1927.

During the Depression, Mr. Wright served as Captain in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he was in charge of the construction of the Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County, Va. He returned to Oceana High School as a teacher for three years, then served as Captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His career ended in 1960 with his retirement from the U.S. Department of the Navy as an industrial engineer and accountant.

He was a lifetime member of London Bridge Baptist Church and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Echols Wright and three children, daughters Evelyn W. Strohkorb and Irene W. Nielsen of Virginia Beach, son Greenville L. Wright Jr. of Vienna, Va.; a brother, William A. Wright of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

Services and burial will be held at London Bridge Baptist Church on Potters Road on Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Tommy Taylor. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
