BURNED BODY FOUND

The charred remains of a man were discovered in a vacant lot early Wednesday, prompting a homicide investigation.

A passer-by in the 800 block of Maltby Ave. discovered the body about 3:02 a.m. The man had been set on fire, police spokesman Larry Hill said. He has not been identified.

Police described the victim as black, in his late 30s to early 40s. He was 5 feet 4, 135 pounds and was missing his two big toes. The man had a scraggly beard and mustache and was wearing a gray jacket and blue jeans.

The body was sent to the crime lab for an autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide squad at 441-5505 or Crime Line at 664-4040.
