SENTARA TO OPEN WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTER IN GREENBRIER

Sentara Health System will officially open its new Sentara Women's Health Source at 801 Volvo Parkway in Greenbrier at 5:30 p.m. today.

The new facility will be open for public inspection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The center contains a comprehensive health and wellness library and will provide community health education classes, support groups and lactation services.

The center replaces the former Sentara Women's Resource Center, which was located in downtown Norfolk.

``We believe our new location just off I-64, near Greenbrier Mall, will offer greater access to all Hampton Roads residents, since our research shows that the area already draws shoppers from all local cities,'' said Susan Hatcher, Sentara Women's Health Source manager.

The new site is at the corner of Volvo and Greenbrier parkways, a quarter-mile from Greenbrier Mall.

The center's services include:

Monthly mobile mammography.

Health education classes for expectant and new parents.

A speakers bureau, connecting health care professionals with public speaking opportunities.

``Female Perspective,'' a free quarterly publication on current women's health and wellness topics.

A support group for endometriosis, menopause and perinatal bereavement.

Therapeutic massage.

Complete lactation services, including breast pump rentals and products.

A baby beeper rental program.

Free health screenings and demonstrations will be available at the open house. Sentara's mobile mammography unit will be on site for scheduled exams. Information on women's health issues - such as menopause, osteoporosis, pregnancy and breast self-exams - will be available, and experts on health, nutrition, exercise and stress-reduction will be on site to answer questions.
