Jay O. Powell of the 500 block of Pennsylvania Ave. Norfolk, Virginia, died at his residence on April 13, 1995. He was the son of the late J.O. and Beatrice McHugh Powell. He was the husband of Velma Wood Powell, who survives. Mr. Powell was a retired teacher from the Norfolk Public Schools. He was also an Author, a photographer, an artist and a musician. He received his undergraduate degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and his graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two nephews and three nieces and a host of friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held Sunday April 30, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 6901 Newport Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia, friends are invited. Twiford's Funeral Home, Ghent Chapel, 1920 Colley Ave. Norfolk, Virginia. is in charge of arrangements.
