MARY B. ALFRIEND

Mary Blair Alfriend, 92, died April 27, 1995, in a Virginia Beach Hospital.

Miss Alfriend was a daughter and the last surviving child of the late Reverend Richard J. Alfriend Sr. and Mary Emily Hume Alfriend. She was predeceased by four sisters, Emily A. Rawlings, Eliza V. Alfriend, Margaret A. Boykin, and Virginia A. Mapp; and three brothers, Richard J. Alfriend Jr., John S. Alfriend, and Theodoric B. Alfriend.

Miss Alfriend was one of the first lady court reporters who qualified in all the Norfolk area courts, and practiced her profession as such for many years. During World War II, she was selected to take depositions for the War Price Administration as one of the National Court Reporters.

She is survived by fifteen nieces and nephews and a number of grand-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 1995, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery by Father John J. Dorgan. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 520 Graydon Avenue, Norfolk, Va.
