DOROTHY H. DOWLING

Dorothy Elizabeth Hodges Dowling, 73, of the first block of Gillis Road, a retired bookkeeper, died April 26, 1995, in Portsmouth.

Mrs. Dowling was born in Norfolk. She was a member of Cradock Baptist Church, Women of the Moose and a past member of the Retired Officers Wives Society.

Survivors include her husband, Henry A. Dowling of Portsmouth; two daughters, Nancy Dowling Wolfford of Lafargeville, N.Y., and Gene Rimer of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mildred Hodges Rowland of Richmond; a brother, O. Lynn Swensen of Millington, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, William Nash Hodges and Viola Godsey Hodges Swensen.

A funeral was conducted at noon Friday at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Hwy. Chapel, by Dr. David R. Denny, the Rev. Scott M. Rimer and Dr. Willis Dowling with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Hope Haven Children's Home.
