INVESTIGATION NETS 5 DRUG-RELATED ARRESTS

Five more Manteo residents have been arrested on cocaine-related drug charges, Dare County Sheriff A.L. ``Bert'' Austin said Friday.

The arrests are the result of an eight-month investigation by the Dare County Sheriff's Department, the State Bureau of Investigation and the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement Agency.

On Thursday night, the sheriff said, the following people were arrested:

Wilbur Charity, 38, one count of aiding and abetting the sale and delivery of cocaine; two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and deliver; two counts of sale and delivery of cocaine. Wilbur Charity is in the Dare County jail under a $21,000 secured bond.

George White, 23, one count of possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and deliver; one count of sale and delivery of cocaine. White is in the Dare County jail under a $6,000 secured bond.

Major Charity, 35, three counts of possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver; three counts of sale and delivery of cocaine. Major Charity is in the Dare County jail under an $18,000 bond.

Diane Alexander, 36, one count of aiding and abetting the sale of cocaine. Alexander was released after posting a $3,000 secured bond.

On Friday, police arrested Leroy ``Boogie'' McClease, 45, and charged him with one count of possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver; one count of sale and delivery of cocaine. McClease was released after posting a $3,500 secured bond.

The investigation had produced other arrests earlier this week.

``More arrests will be forthcoming as a result of these investigations,'' Austin said. ``The arrests of these individuals and those to follow should have a major impact on the availability of crack cocaine in Dare County.''
