LAKELAND TUNED UP for Saturday's Suffolk Invitational track meet by sweeping both the boys and girls divisions of a tri-meet against Southampton and Franklin on Wednesday.
As has been the case most of the season, Melvin Frazier led the way for the Cavaliers, winning the long and triple jumps and running a leg on the victories 400 relay team.
But despite losing the team competition, both the Indians and Broncos got strong individual performances. Franklin freshman DiShaun Hart set a school record with a 10-6 pole vault and remained unbeaten in the event for the season. And Jennifer West, a junior, took the long jump and 100 and placed second in her first appearance in the 200.
Latoya Atkins highlighted Southampton's effort by taking the 100 and 200 runs. ILLUSTRATION: Lakeland's Melvin Frazier hurls himself forward in the triple
