The intersection of Thalia Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard proved
especially dangerous last week. Within 23 hours, two separate
collisions occurred there, leaving a total of six people with
injuries, though none of them life threatening. At 12:39 p.m.
Tuesday, a Ford van heading west on the boulevard struck the
passenger side of a Plymouth minivan, carrying a mother and two
children, ages 4 and 5. The 22-year-old driver of the Ford van was
charged with disregarding a red light. On Wednesday, at about 11:20
a.m., the driver of a Ford Tempo went through a red light and
slammed broadside into a minivan at the intersection. The collision
flipped the minivan upside down, trapping the 60- and 61-year-old
occupants for about 30 minutes. The 23-year-old driver of the Tempo
was charged with reckless driving.
