Dr. Milton Salasky, 84, a retired physician, of Norfolk, Virginia, died on April 29, 1995, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist.
He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1911 and practiced medicine in Norfolk for four decades until his retirement in 1981. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary and thereafter attended The Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1936. Following medical school, he served in the United States Air Force until 1946, attaining the rank of major. He was on the staff of DePaul Hospital and Norfolk General Hospital, and was President of DePaul Hospital Medical Board. For eight years he was a member of the faculty of Eastern Virginia Medical School, and also served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Beth El Temple. He was active in establishing a Professorship of Judaic Studies at The College of William and Mary (the first such chair in the nation) and in 1987 was awarded the Alumni Medallion by the College. From 1985 to 1987 he was Chairman of the Olde Guarde Council, Society of The Alumni of William and Mary.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and many professional organizations.
His wife Shirley predeceased him in 1988. Survivors include three brothers, Bennett Salasky of Virginia Beach; Stanley Salasky of Norfolk; and Leonard Salasky of Sacramento, California; and sister Bernice Glickfeld of San Francisco, California. He is also survived by his three sons, Arnold Salasky of Norfolk; Michael Salasky and his wife Prudence of Norfolk; and Franklin Salasky of New York, New York; as well as five grandchildren, Arielle and Stephen Salasky of Virginia Beach and Julia, Charlotte and Vanessa Salasky of Norfolk.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1995, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Jacob Tessler. The family will receive friends at 7342 Millbrook Road, Norfolk, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley and Milton Salasky Memorial Endowment at The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia.
