Tazewell Taylor Hubard Jr., 92, of Westminster-Canterbury of Virginia Beach, died April 30, 1995.
He was born in Norfolk and attended Norfolk City Public Schools, Norfolk Academy, and Episcopal High School. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1922 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. After graduation, he taught at Randolph-Macon Academy and then spent 13 years working for the C&P Telephone Co. while serving as a Major in the National Guard. He secured his real estate license in 1938 and spent the remainder of his business career as a real estate salesman, broker, and appraiser.
While in real estate, Mr. Hubard was president and director of the Norfolk Board of Realtors as well as the Virginia Association of Realtors. He served as the director of the National Association of Real Estate Boards and director of the Tidewater Chapter No. 117, Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was ``Realtor of the Year'' for the Norfolk Board of Realtors in 1965 and for the Virginia Association of Realtors in 1966.
Mr. Hubard was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church and former Senior Warden and Vestryman at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk. He served as president of the Norfolk Host Lions Club, president of the Norfolk Junior Chamber of Commerce, president of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Chapter, V.M.I. Alumni Association, and president of the Norfolk Academy Association. Mr. Hubard was a former member of the Norfolk Republican Committee and Precinct Chairman, former member of the Virginia Beach City Republican Committee and District Delegate, president of the North Virginia Beach Civic League, president of the Norfolk German Club, and former member of the Virginia Beach Erosion Commission.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline S. Hubard; three children, Smiley H. Waller of Virginia Beach, Tazewell T. Hubard III of Norfolk, and Sallie H. Moore of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren, J. Wilcox Dunn III, Taylor Dunn Kelly, Carrie W. Hubard, Taylor H. Hubard, and Emily C. Moore.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 1995, in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Norfolk by the Rev. Dr. Stanley W. Sawyer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ocean Park Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 5545, Virginia Beach 23455 or All Saints' Episcopal Church, 1968 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach 23454.
