A 35-year-old woman walking home early Monday was struck and killed by a pickup, police said.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 58. Juanita Diane Latourette, of the 100 block of Pender St., may have wandered onto the road when she was hit by a 1989 Ford truck driven by John Robert Hogue, of the 100 block of Thrasher Road in Chesapeake. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Hogue, whose truck was pulling a camper, couldn't change lanes in time to avoid Latourette.
No charges have been filed pending an investigation.
Suffolk police are asking anyone who may know Latourette, or may have seen her between 7 and 9:30 p.m., to call 925-6350.
