Archie R. Smith Sr., 86, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 2, 1995.
A native of Richmond, he had been a Peninsula resident for 66 years. Mr. Smith was the founder and co-owner of Smith & Keene Electric Service. He retired in 1974 after 29 years of service. He was an active member of the Men's Bible Class, former Chairman of the Board of Stewards, the Gideon's International for 40 years, the Peninsula Retired Men's Club, and former member of the Fishers of Men.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lena Beadles Smith; his daughter and son-in-law, Alice S. and Marvin D. Wyatt of Newport News; his son and daughter-in-law, Archie R. Jr. and Carlita H. Smith of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Robert D. Wyatt of Yakima, Wash., Pamela W. Creel of Kalispell, Mont., Alan R. Wyatt of Hampton, Lynn W. Beverage of Syracuse, N.Y., Rebecca S. Reich of Chesapeake, Stephen R. Smith of Lakeland, Fla., Gary K. Smith of Chesapeake, and Timothy S. Smith of Newport News; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Noland Memorial United Methodist Church by Rev. William L. Clark. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Gideon's International (South Camp), or Noland Memorial United Methodist Church.
