Joseph G. Fairless, 70, of the 100 block of Circle Drive, died Tuesday morning at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born April 6, 1925, in Harrellsville, N.C., a son of the late Joseph Graham Fairless and Ellie M. Fairless. Mr. Fairless was employed for 36 years by the Burroughs Company where for 27 years he served as a service manager. He was a member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church where he served as an usher. Mr. Fairless was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. He was a member of Bridgeport Post (NU)68, American Legion, and Bridgeport Post (NU)8492, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a graduate of Harrellsville High School.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Edith Burt whom he married May 8, 1946; three daughters, Mrs. John (Jo Ann) Scott of Sterling, Va., Mrs. Larry (Janet Louise) Sims of Winchester, Va., and Mrs. Al (Judith Lynn) Starkey of Bridgeport, W.Va.; one brother, Shirley Wilkens Fairless of Harrellsville, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Donnie (Mary Elizabeth) Williams of Arrowhead Beach, N.C., Mrs. William (Margaret Ann) White of Merry Hill, N.C., and Mrs. Lonnie (Florence Williams) Pierce of Harrellsville, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Sarah Scott of Sterling, Va., and Heather, Allison, and Craig Starkey of Bridgeport.
Friends may call the Allen Funeral Home, Bridgeport, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be removed to the Simpson Creek Baptist Church to lie in state one hour before the service on Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins and the Rev. Ken Harden will officiate. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown with military honors provided by Grafton Veterans.
