PIER FISHING SLOWS AS THE WIND PICKS UP

Pier fishing from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head was pretty good Tuesday morning, but deteriorated as the wind increased.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught sea mullet and small gray trout early in the day, but action was killed by the tide running hard to the south during the afternoon.

Avalon Pier and Nags Head Pier reported speckled trout, bluefish and sea mullet taken during the morning. Only a few blues and mullet were taken on Jennette's Pier. Outer Banks Pier fishermen caught some sea mullet and small spot halfway out on the pier.

On Hatteras Island, a few mullet were reported taken on Rodanthe Pier and Avon Pier. Strong winds and rough water stalled action on Frisco Pier.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow, but some mullet and a few blues were taken along the Hatteras Island beaches.

Drum fishing was slow Monday night at Cape Point. A few were landed Tuesday morning. Some blues were taken on the beach south of Cape Point and anglers fishing the beach north of Cape Point caught some mullet.

No offshore trips were possible Tuesday because of weather conditions.

Bottom fishing should continue to improve along the beaches and in the sounds as more spot, croaker and small trout move inshore.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck Tuesday was 55.5 degrees. by CNB
