A rain-slick roadway may have been a factor in a Tuesday morning accident that killed a 31-year-old Wanchese man, North Carolina Highway Patrol officials said.
Aaron William Etheridge was killed about 8:50 a.m. when the 1992 Mitsubishi truck he was driving clipped the rear of another vehicle, struck a culvert and went airborne, flipped and landed on its roof. Etheridge was dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 1985 Chevrolet Blazer, was not hurt. Etheridge was traveling in the northbound lane near Skyco when the wreck occurred.
``I think it (rain) played a role in this,'' said Trooper W.A. Joyner.
More rain is expected in the next few days. Joyner said drivers should exercise greater caution when driving in wet weather.
``I wish people would slow down,'' he said. ``They should increase the following distance between them and other vehicles, and reduce their speed.''
