The letter from Deborah Hill (``Exploited,'' April 26) which links terrorists activities that occurred during the Carter and Clinton administrations to weak leadership is a prime example of the kind of rhetoric the president is urging us to speak out against. In order to make her point, Ms. Hill fails to mention several well-known events.
She ignores the hostages taken in Beirut, who were held for several years; the plane destroyed over Lockerbie, Scotland; and the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, all of which occurred during the Reagan administration. She also ignores the numerous hijackings in which Americans, particularly servicemen, were specifically targeted during the Reagan and Bush administrations.
Weak'' leadership has either become endemic in both parties or we must look elsewhere to lay the blame for the increase in terrorist activity.
