JOSEPH P. RYAN

Joseph Patrick Ryan, 83, of 4 Riverview Road, Uncasville, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995 at the W.W. Backus Hospital, Norwich.

Born in Lowell, Mass., Feb. 12, 1912, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret Kennedy Ryan. Mr. Ryan was married in Salem, N.H., Oct. 27, 1951 to Hazel Clare McGuane. She died Jan. 26, 1989. He had been a resident of Uncasville for many years, where he was president of Uncas Foods Inc. from 1958 to 1989. He was past president of the Norwich Golf Club, a member of Pautipaug Country Club, a trustee of the Norwich Lodge of Elks (NU)430 and a member of the Montville Democratic Town Committee. He was a communicant of St. John's Church, Uncasville.

He is survived by four sons, Joseph Ryan of Virginia Beach, William Ryan of Port Charlotte, Fla., Richard Ryan of Scituate, R.I., and State Representative, Dr. Kevin Ryan of Uncasville; one daughter, Carol Frost of W. Greenwich, R.I.; four sisters, Margaret Wallace of Lisle, Ill., Terry Helstrom of Woburn, Mass., Bertha Stevens of E. Greenwich, R.I., and Mabel Bosinoff of Boca Raton, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Ryan and four sisters, Patsy Young, Kitty Kelly, Reginia Ryan and Mary Ryan.

The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. today at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82, Cliff St., Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. John's Church, Uncasville at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, Mass., at the convenience of the family.
