ETHEL J. CHEEKS

Ethel Mae J. Cheeks of the 2700 block of Evergreen Place, died May 3, 1995, in Sentara Nursing Center, Portsmouth.

Mrs. Cheeks was born in Portsmouth and was the widow of William R. Cheeks Sr. She was a member of Brighton Rock AMEZ Church in Portsmouth and an Usher, and a member of Mary Athline Tent (NU)44, JRG & JU Tents.

Survivors include two daughters, Portia C. Sawyer and Helena Stephens, both of Portsmouth; a son, William R. Cheeks Jr. of Hampton; two sisters, Beulah J. Smith of New Brunswick, N.J. and Gladys J. Jasper of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Brighton Rock AMEZ Church by the Rev. Leroy R. Blair. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at noon Sunday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Monday.
