FEMALE SAILOR, 20, MISSING SINCE APRIL 24

Navy investigators are seeking help in their search for a 20-year-old female sailor, reported missing April 24 after a work assignment at the Norshipco plant in the Berkley section of Norfolk.

Seaman Apprentice Fatimah Jean Khan, assigned to the oiler Merrimack, is listed as an ``involuntary missing person,'' according to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

She was told to inspect the ship's vehicles about 9 p.m. on April 24 while the Merrimack was moored at one of the shipyard's piers. The vehicles were located on the pier, about 200 feet from the ship. She has not been seen since.

A white 12-passenger Dodge van, with U.S. Navy license plate number 93-26560, also is missing.

Khan did not have a driver's license. She is described by her supervisors as a good worker and her absence is not considered in character. She was last seen wearing a blue Navy dungaree uniform, blue utility jacket and a ``USS Merrimack'' ball cap. She is 5-foot-3, 112 pounds, a caucasian of Pakistani descent, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone having information about her whereabouts is asked to call 444-7327. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
