A man walking along Carolina Road was fatally injured when he was struck by a van Wednesday night. Harvey Lee Lewis, 67, of the 600 block of Ashley Ave., was flown by Nightingale helicopter ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He died early Thursday.
The accident happened about 10:20 p.m. near Greenfield Crescent, just south of downtown, as Lewis walked north, partly on the five-lane road.
Police said he was struck by a southbound van driven by Dewey D. Houck Jr., 71, of the 100 block of Greenway Drive. Houck did not see Lewis, who was wearing dark clothing, police said.
No charges were filed.
Lewis was the second pedestrian killed in Suffolk this week. A 35-year-old woman was hit by a pickup early Monday when she wandered into the eastbound lane of Holland Road, near Oak Ridge.
