John Melton Dailey Jr., 57, of the 2000 block of Whaleyville Blvd., died May 5, 1995, in his home.
Mr. Dailey was born in Suffolk and was a member of Suffolk Christian Church. He was retired as co-owner of Dailey's Supermarket after 25 years. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, Suffolk Moose Lodge (NU)141, former member of Suffolk Elks Lodge (NU)685, and was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Emily Lewis Dailey; four daughters, Allison Dailey of Virginia Beach, Amy A. Ellis of Suffolk, Jennifer Dailey Edwards of Corapeake, N.C., and Elizabeth D. Christie of Edgefield, S.C.; his mother, Hattie Cara Joyner Dailey and father, John Melton Dailey Sr., both of Suffolk; a brother, Dan E. Dailey Sr. of Suffolk; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Ellis of Suffolk, Caitlin Christie, Kyle Christie and Cody Christie, all of Edgefield, S.C.; and faithful labrador, O.C.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Bruce A. Havens. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family in Hill Funeral Home from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, Suffolk Christian Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society, Suffolk Chapter.
