I can attest to the warm-heartedness of the people of Oklahoma.
My friend and I were just out of boot camp, attending metalsmith school in Norman, Okla., in the early 1940s.
We were given leave one Sunday and chose to attend services in a small church nearby. The people were so friendly and cordial and immediately put us at ease. One family even extended us an invitation to have Sunday dinner with them. It was with a little bit of apprehension that we accepted. However, we needn't have worried. The dinner was excellent and we spent a most pleasant afternoon with them. When it came time for us to leave, they drove us back to the base.
I, for one, will never forget their hospitality, and my heart grieves for them during their present ordeal.
