The fourth-graders of Woodstock Elementary School are concluding a

study of the founding and settling of the state of Virginia and the

surrounding Native Americans. They recently went to Jamestown and

Yorktown for a visual interpretation of all they learned. On May 3,

the students were immersed in Colonial life. Throughout the time

period, students dressed in Colonial costume, rotating among their

classrooms in which they experienced life in Colonial Virginia.

Their many activities included crafts such as Indian beading, totem

poles, Colonial quilting and calligraphy with quill pens. They also

ate a lunch of fried chicken, succotash, corn bread and apple juice.

The students played Colonial games such as an egg race, three-legged

race and hoop race.
