DAVID HAVRILLA CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER AT HOSPITAL IN FRANKLIN

AS THE NEW CHIEF operating officer at Southampton Memorial Hospital, David Havrilla's job is figuring out how to spend less while offering the same services at the 220-bed facility.

Havrilla thinks it's possible.

Since he arrived in January, he's been trying to help develop a five-year plan to decrease spending, he said.

Havrilla came back to Virginia after a working for Jeanes Health System in Philadelphia for several years. His wife Suzanne, a physical therapist with House Calls, the hospital's home health care service, is from Richmond.

``I had worked for Riverside Health System in Newport News in the mid-'80s, and we really liked this area - the people and the climate. With our young family, we thought coming back to the area would be the best thing for the whole family,'' he said.

Havrilla likes to hit the racquetball courts, or the beaches with his family.

``We're beach people, and we love to just lie there, get that tan and build sandcastles,'' he said.
