PRESCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM

The city public schools has developed a pilot program for pre-schoolers with disabilities and their families. The Preschool Community Outreach Program is designed to build a positive relationship among families, the school and the community.

As one of the city's newest approaches to family-centered education, the program provides students with reinforcement of classroom activities, while providing parents with skills designed to enhance their child's development at home. In-service training is provided for parents by resource teachers and area agency personnel. A lending library is available to parents. Families have an opportunity to share experiences and communicate in a relaxed atmosphere.

All planned activities, conducted at regularly scheduled meetings in select neighborhoods, are held after the regular school day to allow more parents to participate.
