CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On April 19, at 1 p.m., a 76-year-old Norfolk woman had just left the Kmart store in the 7500 block of Tidewater Drive when she was approached by a woman and then a man. They told her that they had her grandson and would kill him if she did not pay them for his safe release. The victim then went to the First Union Bank at Wards Corner and withdrew $18,000.

During the transaction, a bank camera took a photo of the female suspect. She is as black, 50 to 60 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 145 pounds and was wearing an orange pants suit and held a white purse.

The male suspect was described only as black and about 55 years old.

PORTSMOUTH

On April 7 and again on April 9, someone called in a bomb threat to the Super Fresh grocery store at 1280 Frederick Blvd., in the MidCity Shopping Center. The two calls turned out to be a hoax but were treated as the real thing.

The calls were made from a nearby pay phone at a Rally's restaurant, also is in the MidCity Shopping Center. At least two people were involved in making both calls.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Thursday, April 27, about midnight, two men entered the McDonald's restaurant on Northampton Boulevard at Burton Station Road through the rear door.

One of the robbers was armed with a pistol and forced an employee to the floor. After taking money, the robbers ran away.

Both suspects are described as black, with light skin, in their late teens or early 20s, with short hair. They were described as tall and weighing about 250 pounds. One man wore a green Army jacket and the other wore a dark red sweater. They wore bandannas on their faces.

CHESAPEAKE

Morris Howard, 35, is wanted for violation of parole. He is described as black, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 210 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Robert McPherson, 37, is wanted for possession of cocaine. He is described as black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a goatee mustache.

HAMPTON

On Thursday, April 20, in the evening, someone used a large rock to break a rear window and enter a home in the 1600 block of Chesapeake Ave. The burglar stole a large amount of assorted jewelry.
