WILSON OWNEY

Wilson Owney, age 79, died Sunday, May 7, 1995, at Louise Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

A local businessman, he owned and operated Windsor Appliances. For 30 years, he worked as a contractor for Silas S. Kea & Sons. He was a member of the Ivor Baptist Church and was made an honorary member of the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1986 after serving on the squad for over 25 years. He was the husband of the late Virginia Giles Owney and the son of the late James Mayo and Emma Pittman Owney.

He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn O. Carr of Ivor, Brenda O. Edwards of Franklin and Phyllis O. Perkins of Wakefield; one son, Joseph W. Owney Jr. of Suffolk; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield. Burial will be in the Ivor Cemetery, Ivor. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad, Ivor, Va. 23866.
