HERBERT L. HAYES

Herbert Lee Hayes, 69, of the 1100 block of Horne Ave., a retired missile mechanic, died May 7, 1995, in Bevery Manor of Portsmouth.

Mr. Hayes was born in Portsmouth and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station after 30 years. He was also retired as a custodian from Sewells Point Golf Course after five years and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville and Mount Gilead (NU)101, Order of Masons.

Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Jones of Portsmouth; a son, Navy Chief Clifton B. Hayes of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Lillie Jones of Portsmouth; a brother, Vincent B. Hayes of Camden, N.J.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in New Garden of Prayer Church of God in Christ, 1409 Marshall Ave., by Elder Samuel Moore. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with military honors and Masonic rites. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
