Ida Ruth ``Miss Ruth'' Moore of the 900 block of Tennyson St., died Saturday, May 6, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mrs. Moore, a native of Hyde County, N.C., was the daughter of George Howard and Gertrude B. Howard Elliot. She was a member of New Galilee Baptist Church. She was the retired co-owner of New Carolina Restaurant, formerly on Church Street in Norfolk. From 1944 until 1985, Mrs. Moore and her husband operated one of the finest restaurants in Norfolk. When a customer entered New Carolina Restaurant, they knew they would be greeted with a smile and would be served one of the most delectable meals ever. In 1985 the restaurant closed its doors after 41 years of fine service to Norfolk residents. She was also a member of the Evergreen Social and Savings Club.
Survivors include her husband, Quincy Moore Jr. of the home; a daughter, Ruth A. Jackson of Chesapeake; a sister, Beadie H. Hunter of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Martha Gilliam and Judith Barrett; and several nieces and nephews, among them James Wescott and Walter Wescott.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Galilee Baptist Church, 1013 Great Bridge Blvd., by the Rev. Anderson Foreman and the Rev. Charles Moore. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
