Fishing along the Dare Coast was fair to good this weekend.
Anglers on northern beach piers caught speckled trout and tailor blues Saturday morning.
Most of the fish were taken on double bucktail rigs or soft plastic artificial baits. Action during the afternoon tapered off, with only a few blues and small bottom fish landed.
Pier fishing slowed Sunday. A few trout, small blues, flounder and small spot were taken.
Action was very slow Monday, with few people fishing and little caught.
On Hatteras Island, pier anglers caught tailor blues, small croaker, sand perch and sea mullet Saturday.
Avon Pier reported good catches of sea mullet Sunday and Monday afternoon.
Fishing on Frisco Pier was slow overall, with only a few small bottom fish taken.
Fair numbers of speckled trout were taken from the surf south of Kitty Hawk Pier Saturday morning. A few were beached in the same location Sunday and Monday.
Some small bottom fish and a few blues were landed around Oregon Inlet over the weekend. Good catches of mullet were reported from the catwalk on the south end of the Oregon Inlet bridge Saturday night.
Surf casters took mullet, small croaker and gray trout along the Hatteras Island beaches. The best mullet fishing was from ramp 23 south.
Drum fishing at Cape Point has been slow.
Bluewater fishing off Oregon Inlet was good Saturday, with yellowfin tuna and gaffer dolphin taken.
A 54-pound wahoo was landed aboard ``Bounty Hunter,'' fishing out of Pirates Cove Marina.
Tuna fishing was excellent Sunday between Loran numbers 40560 and 40650.
A sailfish was released by ``Osprey'' and a 140-pound big eye tuna was landed by ``Suspense.'' Offshore action was slow Monday.
Charter boats operating off Hatteras caught scattered tuna, dolphin and wahoo over the weekend.
Releases include a blue marlin by ``Hatteras Blue'' Saturday, and blue marlin by ``Fin-Fantasy'' and ``Outlaw'' Sunday.
A run of drum should develop at Cape Point on Hatteras Island when the southwest wind returns.
The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck Monday was 59.5 degrees. by CNB
