CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION: ***************************************************************** Virginia Beach Police Capt. Alfred M. ``Jake'' Jacocks Jr. is chairman of the Pungo Strawberry Festival May 27-28. His name was misspelled in the Wednesday Beacon. Correction published Friday, May 12, 1995 on page 9 of The Beacon. ***************************************************************** JAKE JAYCOCKS CAPTAIN IN BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT

There's one word missing from Police Capt. Jake Jaycocks' vocabulary this spring.

``We don't use the R-word,'' says Jaycocks.

At least not until after May 28. That's the final day of the Pungo Strawberry Festival and Jaycocks, as this year's chairman, has his fingers crossed that everything will go perfectly - no rain, no out-of-season cold front, no unexpected anything.

When he's got free time (something else that won't happen until after May 28), Jaycocks is a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve, a member of the 4-H Livestock Show and Sale Steering Committee, vice chairman of the Virginia Beach Transportation Safety Committee and an assistant boys baseball team coach.

He's held a variety of posts with the Strawberry Festival over the past several years.

And, he's got a bit of advice for the strawberry party- goers. ``Come early, with a big appetite . . . and with sunscreen!''
