Edward Luther Ammons Sr., 62, died Tuesday in St. Eugene Hospital.
Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Beverly Ammons and Jeanette Webb Leicester. He was a former police officer in Richmond, Va., and former chief of police in Latta. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a Mason, former member of the Latta Rotary Club, member of the Latta Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Co-Sunday School director.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Edwards Ammons of Latta; sons, Eddie Ammons and Mark Ammons of Latta, Tim Ammons of Dillon; nephew, E.C. Sanders of Latta; two sisters, Annie and Beverly; one brother, Donald; three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in Latta Baptist Church. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today in Cooper Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Latta Rescue Squad or the Dillon Christian School.
