Rivers M. Harris, of the 2600 block of Peach St., died May 8, 1995, in Beverly Manor of Portsmouth.
Mrs. Harris was born in Rockingham County, N.C., and was the widow of Merlin Harris. She was a 50-year member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Portsmouth and a choir member for 40 years. She was retired as a checker from Wayside Cleaners after 25 years and was also retired as a receptionist from the McArthur Memorial after five years.
Survivors include two brothers, Gilbert L. Hamlin of Portsmouth and James L. Thomas of Fairfax, Va.; a granddaughter, Alta Y. Edwards of Syracuse, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
