SUFFOLK WOMAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER BEING MAULED BY DOGS

A woman was hospitalized after being attacked by dogs near her home early Tuesday morning.

Cynthia Foust, 32, of the 100 block of S. Capital St., was in stable condition at Obici Hospital Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. Police said she had been bitten and mauled by dogs.

The attack occurred in the 700 block of Bank St. Extended about 2:15 a.m., said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. Foust's clothes were ripped off, and she suffered a number of wounds from the mauling, he said.

The incident happened in the Lloyd Place neighborhood several blocks from Foust's home.

Investigating police officers found two large Rottweiler dogs at the scene. One charged the officers and was shot and killed. The other was captured and is being held at the animal shelter for testing.

The dogs' owner, Karen Dickson of 712 Bank Street Extended, has been charged with failing to have the dogs vaccinated for rabies and failing to have the dogs licensed.
