The Currituck County Board of Education on Monday evening approved a resolution to fund a new high school in Barco for no more than $16,495,512.
The measure now goes to the county's Board of Commissioners for a vote. If approved, construction will get underway on the 159,455-square-foot facility after almost two years of planning.
``It's time to get politics out of it. It's time to get rhetoric out of it,'' said Dr. W.R. ``Ronnie'' Capps, superintendent of Currituck County schools.
``In the interest of children, I ask you to approve this resolution so that we can get on to other projects,'' he added.
The five-member board agreed and unanimously passed the resolution, which also says any money left over from building and furnishing the new school would go toward constructing a new elementary school in Jarvisburg.
``I move to adopt the resolution and send it to the Board of Commissioners so that we can, as a Board of Education, move on and stick the shovel in the ground,'' said Board of Education Chairwoman Mary Ellen Maxwell.
A joint meeting of the two boards is scheduled for May 16. But schools officials said Monday they would try to reschedule the meeting on an earlier date. by CNB
