The boundaries for Moyock and Central elementary schools will not change during the 1995-96 school year, according to comments made at Monday evening's Currituck County Board of Education meeting.
Parents and members of the Moyock school staff earlier had expressed concern with crowded conditions possibly jeopardizing students' safety. This led to a discussion last month on possibly redrawing school districts.
Some students at Moyock Elementary are expected to move to Knapp Junior High School once a new high school opens in 1996 and junior high students move to another building. Knapp will then become an elementary school.
``Everyone felt really strongly about the movement of the children twice in two years,'' said school board Chairwoman Mary Ellen Maxwell.
Dr. W.R. ``Ronnie'' Capps, superintendent of the schools, said Monday evening that Moyock Elementary passed a recent inspection.
``The school is safe,'' he said.
Other elementary schools have been in similar crunches, he added.
``Moyock happens to be the school right now that's under the stress because that happens to be the community that's growing,'' Capps said.
School board member Janet Taylor called for a public forum at the Moyock school to hear school staffers' possible solutions to the overcrowding. by CNB
