MARY GREGG

Mary ``Doris'' Gregg of Virginia Beach, was a retired executive secretary with Carpenter Construction of Norfolk.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to her family. Her home was always a welcome refuge for far flung children and friends.

She died May 9, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a native of Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Gregg was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Captain Otis C. Gregg Sr., USN (Ret.). Capt. and Mrs. Gregg met in the Philippines in 1932. She shanghaied the Captain to Shanghai where they were married in 1933. They honeymooned in Japan during Cherry Blossom time. Mrs. Gregg is remembered for her love of scripture, especially Isaiah 43:1-5: ``I have called thee by thy name; thou are mine.''

She is also survived by three sons, Otis Cockerill Gregg Jr., Benjamin Mabry Gregg, both of Virginia Beach, and Frederick Marion Gregg II of Altamonte, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jenks Ponvert of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, with the Rev. Gary Rowe presiding. Services will be held at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Shore Chapel or to a charity of your choice.
