JAMES V.L. BROOKS

James Vernon Lee Brooks of the 500 block of Byron St., a retired foreman, died May 8, 1995, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Mr. Brooks was born in Norfolk County and was retired from Weavers Fertilizer Co. after 35 years. He was a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Brooks; five daughters, Carolyn Lawrence, Mary Brooks, Patty Brooks, Valerie Brooks and Latricia Brooks of Chesapeake; five sons, James V. Brooks, Kevin Brooks, Gather Brooks, Jay R. Brooks and Calvin Brooks of Chesapeake; four sisters, Corine Lawrence, Florine Hinton, Mary Smith and Shirley Thomas of Chesapeake; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in New Mount Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Walter Mitchell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Fitchett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
