JOSEPH M. CARTER JR.

Joseph M. Carter Jr., of the 400 block of Truman Circle, a retired electrician, died May 7, 1995, in his home.

Mr. Carter was born in Portsmouth. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a member of Union Baptist Church, Shoulders Hill, Suffolk; Truxton Chapter (NU)34, Holy Royal Masons; Antioch (NU)7, Commandery Knights Templar; Mt. Gilead Lodge (NU)102, P.H.A.; Alpha Omega Consistory (NU)9; and Knights of Pythagoras Council (NU)15.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. Carter; a daughter, Sherlene ``Boo'' Daniels C., of Portsmouth; a son, Talmadge ``Ronnie'' Daniels C., of Newport News; two sisters, Brenda Dowtin of Suitland, Md., and Helen Mawusi of Portsmouth; two brothers, Vincent Carter of Richmond, Va., and Arnold Carter of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; an aunt, Marietta Matthews; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday at Union Baptist Church, Shoulders Hill, by the Rev. C.V. Russell, Sr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military and masonic honors. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Corprew Funeral Home where the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.
