HAMPTON MAN IS FATALLY SHOT IN CAR

A 33-year-old Hampton man was shot while sitting in a car that was parked in a store lot Wednesday afternoon, police said. He died a short time later.

Samuel McCray Kelley, whose street address was not known, was pronounced dead at Sentara Hampton General Hospital about a half-hour after the shooting, which was reported at 2:13 p.m.

The shooting occurred in the Home Quarters parking lot in the 2200 block of W. Mercury Blvd. Police said Kelley was sitting in a blue 1980 Buick when, according to witnesses, two men walked up to the car.

``They engaged in a brief conversation and, shortly thereafter, a gunshot was heard,'' said Donnie Moore, a police spokesman. Kelley was shot once in the head.

The two suspects fled west toward a Farm Fresh supermarket and may have driven away in a red, late-model, Ford Escort.

Both suspects are described as black, 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. One man had a light complexion; the other had a clean-shaven head.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 727-6111 or Crime Line at 722-9800.
