VA. POWER TO CREDIT CUSTOMERS $8.3 MILLION

The State Corporation Commission on Wednesday ordered Virginia Power to credit its customers $8.3 million for overcharges related to a contract with the CSX Railroad to haul coal to the utility's power plants. Virginia Power and its Richmond-based parent, Dominion Resources Inc., proposed the credit in February in hopes of settling a dispute with the commission over the coal-hauling deal. The commission's approval was expected. The state agency also ordered Virginia Power to try to renegotiate lower rates with CSX and report back periodically on those talks. (Staff) by CNB
