Jarvis Littleton Howell Sr., 85, of the 1200 block of Glen Haven Drive, a retired farmer, died May 11, 1995, in Obici Hospital.
Mr. Howell was born in Como, N.C., and was a member, Deacon and Trustee of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He served for 12 years on the Board of Supervisors for the former Nansemond County and was the past chairman of this board. He was a charter member of Carrsville Ruritan Club and was the oldest member of Holland Ruritan Club. He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge (NU)151 and had also served on several agricultural and civic organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nell Daughtrey Howell; a daughter, Geraldine H. McDaniel of Roanoke; a son, Jarvis L. Howell Jr. of Suffolk; a sister, Frances H. Daughtrey of Suffolk; two brothers, Robert L. Howell of Portsmouth and Cyrus D. Howell of Como, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher L. Winstead, Kimberley A. Winstead, Jarvis L. Howell III and Jack D. Howell. He was predeceased by his parents, Fannie Beale Howell and Jake L. Howell.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church by Dr. Richard L. Peerey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times at his home.
